We reached Gosaikunda on technique day of leaving Kathmandu. Extremely tired after a six-hour bus journey and an as long uphill trek, we felt greatly relieved the next morning. Not really our eyes but also our hearts were delighted to see Gosaikunda’s ambiance. The natural beauty of the place took our breath away. We felt energetic and rested.
Our bodies were yet to get fully employed to an altitude of 4380 meteres, given the idea we had reached there just on the second day of leaving Kathmandu which lies at around 1400 meteres from sea level. But our hearts felt fantastic. As we were treated to been to high-altitude places in the country’s mountains before, we weren’t concerned about high-altitude sickness.Gosaikunda (Kunda means lake or pond in Nepali) is a lake of religious and historical importance situated in the Langtang National Park in Rasuwa district with a surface of 13.8 hectares. The lake melts and sips down to make up the Trishuli River and remains frozen in winter from October to April.
The challenging Lauribina La pass in an altitude of 4,610 m is on its outskirts. Reported by locals, there are 17 smaller lakes of religious and cultural importance each morning immediate vicinity of Gosaikunda such as Surya kunda, Saraswati Kunda and Bhairav Kunda.
